Research & Development Scientist/Engineer

We’re looking for an expert R&D Scientist/Engineer to join Levidian’s growing Research and Development team. The role will specifically focus on parametric studies, optimising and upscaling the current LOOP system that uses plasma technology to break down methane into hydrogen and carbon, which are then exported as hydrogen gas and high-quality graphene.


Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of R&D, you’ll join our growing R&D team who are responsible for scaling up our innovative technology. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Setting up and running relevant R&D experiments.

  • Microwave Plasma Torch assembly.

  • Metrology installation.

  • Analysing data from experiments.

  • Writing reports and summarising findings.


Candidate Requirements

It’s important that you have an interest in climate technology. Decarbonisation is at the heart of everything we do. The successful candidate will be a team player willing to turn their hand to almost any task in a science lead engineering environment. You will have experience in setting up and undertaking scientific experiments using plasma technology.

Skills and experience:

You will have experience in the following:

  • Knowledge and experience with plasma technology.

  • Knowledge and experience within a precision engineering environment.

  • Experience working within an R&D environment.

  • Excellent understanding of laboratory procedures, standards, and safety requirements.

  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Proven ability to identify, assess, and solve problems.

  • Proficient with computer and information technology.

  • Familiarity with applicable health and safety regulations.

The following experience would be advantageous:

  • Using plasma technology in an R&D environment.

  • Using atmospheric pressure plasma technology.

  • Using high power microwave plasma technology.

Education and qualifications:

A degree in a relevant subject, for example science, physics, or engineering.

A PhD or industrial experience is advantageous.


Location and travel requirements

This role is based at our Cambridge Technology Centre - we take a very flexible approach to hours and understand you probably have responsibilities outside of work. Let us know how we can work together to accommodate them.

We don’t expect much travel being required, other than the occasional event or meeting.
