2022: A year in review

2022 has been a remarkable year for Levidian. We’re incredibly proud of the steps we have taken this year in our mission to address global climate change.

As the year draws to a close, we wanted to take a moment to look back at our progress through the past year and what made it so special.

Commercialisation

Our main focus this year has been taking our technology to market. 2022 has been a standout year for both our LOOP and graphene products.

LOOP

We hit a significant milestone in July. Our first containerised LOOP system left Cambridge and made its way to the United Arab Emirates. That LOOP has now been fully commissioned and is operational, with remote monitoring from our Cambridge Technology Centre.

In November, we announced our collaboration with solutions business Eco Group. In an agreement marking multiple firsts, LOOP will be deployed in the south of Scotland and will be the first remote implementation of our pioneering technology in the UK. It is also a world-first deployment of a LOOP system with fully integrated hydrogen separation.

Graphene

Graphene has been a solution looking for a problem to solve since its discovery in 2004. It’s now found it - the fight against climate change. This year our graphene has been delivered to customers all over the world, from the UK to Malaysia, and across industries from battery production to coatings.

Decarbonisation

Combining our technology and expertise allows us to take customers on a net zero journey. This year we’ve worked with some major organisations to help them decarbonise including United Utilities, Santander, and progress on our partnership with National Grid.

Laying the foundations for growth

In response to growing customer demand, we have been preparing for the next phase of rapid growth. In 2022 our company has undergone a major transformation.

We secured international investment

In October, US energy technology giant Baker Hughes backed our technology with a £12m investment – opening up global collaboration opportunities. The investment is helping us to further scale LOOP and our graphene production capacities. We also welcomed Luca Maria Rossi onto our board.

We grew our team

Thanks to substantial investment and demand for our products and services, we’re delighted to have welcomed 30 new members to the team this year. We’ve created brand new departments, strengthened existing ones, and built on our already-strong technical expertise.

We grew our presence

This year our technology and products featured in a number of major news outlets, including on the Sky News Climate Show and in The Economist. We also joined industry bodies at the forefront of driving sustainability and effective change, for example Hydrogen UK. We have welcomed ministers and members of parliament to our Cambridge Technology Centre to showcase our LOOP technology and the important role Levidian can play in supporting decarbonisation efforts.

We formed key partnerships

In 2022, we have formed several important partnerships to support us with decarbonisation and graphene development. We signed a Memorandum of Understanding with hydraulic and electrical experts, SMS Alderley, to set out a clear pathway of collaboration for LOOP deployment. We’re also proud to now hold a Tier 2 membership at the Graphene Engineering Innovation Centre (GEIC), meaning we can benefit from the unique knowledge and capability held by the GEIC with access to their application areas and specialist equipment.

We launched our vision and mission

Our business has long had one goal in mind: to address global climate change. We solidified our intention this year by developing new vision and mission statements through an interactive process with all staff.

  • Our vision is to build a circular economy by converting greenhouse gases into innovative solutions and materials

  • Our mission is to become a leading climate technology business, enabling a decarbonised world powered by hydrogen and built on graphene

It’s safe to say it’s been a busy year! Our team will be enjoying a well-earned break for the New Year, but we’re incredibly excited for 2023.

Here’s a peek at what’s coming up:

  • In the LOOP

    • With key partnerships and agreements in place (and more to come), we’ll be delivering the next LOOPs to customers around the world. We’ll also be undertaking significant R&D to scale up LOOP capacity.

  • Graphene, graphene, graphene

    • We’ve seen the potential for graphene to accelerate the decarbonisation of the world around us. In 2023, we’ll continue leading the way on integrating graphene into a range of materials. Our growing Levidian Applied Technologies team are already supporting customers with their development programmes. We look forward to welcoming new partners in graphene next year.

  • Investing in our facilities

    • Our Cambridge Technology Centre will be undergoing a remodel in early 2023 to support our team growth and to ensure our facilities have the capacity to support our large number of customer and partner projects.

  • We’re hiring!

    • Recruitment is still high on the agenda. We’ll be on the lookout for more talented individuals to join our team throughout the year.

Finally, we’d like to take the opportunity to say a huge thank you to all our customers and partners who have supported us on our journey this year – we’re really looking forward to continuing these relationships into the new year and beyond.

We wish you a wonderful end of 2022 and a happy New Year.
