Nanum Nanotecnologia and Levidian sign strategic MoU to scale advanced carbon materials production and applications in Brazil

Nanum Nanotecnologia, Brazil’s first industrial-scale nanomaterials manufacturer, and Levidian, a UK-headquartered advanced materials company with a growing global footprint, today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a strategic partnership focused on accelerating industrial-scale adoption and local production of graphene-based materials.

Nanum Nanotecnologia operates the country’s first industrial plant for large-scale production of a wide range of nanomaterials, including graphene oxide (GO), delivering unique products with consistent quality for applications across energy, polymers, coatings, agriculture, civil construction, and environmental technologies.

Levidian brings graphene expertise and an innovative production method in the form of LOOP, a microwave plasma technology that cracks methane at low temperature and pressure, converting it into two valuable outputs: high-quality graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) and hydrogen. Because LOOP builds graphene ‘bottom-up’ using methane as a feedstock, rather than exfoliating mined graphite, the process can be tightly controlled to support consistent material quality. LOOP offers both a scalable, local supply of advanced carbon materials and a route to lower-carbon production, depending on the methane source and electricity mix, supporting the growth of the Brazilian advanced materials market.

A Strategic Match of Capabilities

Under the MoU, Nanum and Levidian will work jointly to:

  • Deploy Levidian’s LOOP technology in Brazil, establishing a local production line for graphene nanoplatelets and clean hydrogen.

  • Assess technical synergies between GO and GNPs to expand the combined product portfolio.

  • Develop new applications by integrating both companies’ material technologies for strategic sectors, including energy storage, composites, coatings, infrastructure, and mobility.

  • Accelerate qualification and adoption of graphene-enabled and lower-carbon materials, contributing to Brazil’s sustainability and industrial innovation agenda.
