Levidian and Nanum Nanotecnologia scale up graphene trials with first tonne-scale order

Advanced materials company Levidian today announced the sale of one tonne of graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) to Nanum Nanotecnologia, Brazil’s first industrial-scale nanomaterials manufacturer, to support expanded customer trials and qualification programmes with major industrial end users.

The order builds on the companies’ recent strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on accelerating industrial-scale adoption and, in time, local production of graphene-based materials in Brazil. The one-tonne supply will be used across multiple customer evaluation programmes as Nanum and its partners progress graphene use cases into larger-scale, real-world operating environments.

Levidian’s graphene nanoplatelets are produced via LOOP™, a proprietary microwave plasma technology that converts methane into graphene and hydrogen in a low temperature, low pressure, catalyst-free, water-free process. By producing graphene ‘bottom-up’ from methane rather than exfoliating mined graphite, LOOP™ is designed to support tighter control of production conditions and more consistent material quality, addressing the variability and supply inconsistency that have historically slowed industrial adoption.

Supporting industrial qualification across priority applications

Nanum will use the graphene to enable expanded customer trials and technical validation across applications where graphene can deliver measurable performance benefits. In paints and coatings, the focus is on enhanced barrier performance and durability in demanding industrial environments. In polymers and composites, graphene offers improved mechanical properties with potential for material reduction at low loadings. In energy storage and conductive systems, the trials will explore improved conductivity and performance stability in selected formulations.

The partners will also continue joint technical work under the MoU to assess product portfolio synergies across graphene material formats and support a clear pathway from testing to repeatable industrial supply.

Quotes:

Aílton Ricaldoni Lobo, Chairman of Nanum Nanotecnologia, stated: “This purchase is a practical next step following our MoU with Levidian. It supports expanded trials with industrial customers and helps accelerate qualification of graphene-enhanced materials for applications where performance, reliability and scalability matter.”

José Fernando Contadini, CEO of Nanum Nanotecnologia, said: “Nanum has a track record of taking advanced materials from innovation through to industrial delivery. Access to a tonne-scale supply of graphene supports broader evaluation programmes and helps our customers move from interest to validation in real operating conditions.”

Ian Hopkins, Chief Commercial Officer of Levidian, commented: “This order is a strong signal of momentum in Brazil. Tonne-scale supply is a meaningful enabler for industrial qualification, especially in applications where customers need confidence in repeatability, processing and supply continuity. Working with Nanum, we can support customers as they move towards broader adoption and, ultimately, local production capability as demand grows.”
